We consider the Covid-19 crisis as an example of disaster capitalism: we are already seeing employers and governments exploit the situation to erode our rights as workers and we will discuss specific examples of this on the group call. The vast majority of us are freelance and/or on zero hours contracts. The ongoing carousel of theatre industry ‘conversations’ has only revealed that most of us have no real say or power over what comes next. And, as a precarious workforce, we lack the cultures and practices of collectivity that could enable us to fight exploitation, to be resilient in the face of shocks, and to support each other materially.
